Koreanted..

Me was in Korea..

Family vacation and truthfully I only spend money on shopping spree and not the whole flight and acco. Those two were on my parents. My money for this year has been budgeted and put aside for something else. Korea was not in the picture this year. It was much unexpected. So it makes sense that I didn't have to fork out much from the bank.

I was not really looking forward to it. I didn’t even Google Korea. My bag from KK trip was not even unpacked yet when I realised that I’ve to pack again for Korea. So I did not expect anything fun out of it.

There, I was only able to say four sentences which I hoped the Koreans do understand:-

  1. which is anyong haseyo (which is halo),
  2. kamsa hamida (which means thank you),
  3. olmayeyo (which means how much is this?) and
  4. gakkak juseyo (can i getdiscounts?).

I am not even sure the phrases means. But I think it has a meaning some sort like what I was made to understand. Asking for discounts is crucial as shopping in Korea can be quite expensive. Roughly, 1000won is equal to 1 USD = RM3. Whenever we went shopping, I will straight ask olmayeyo? (and the salesperson had not even have the chance to say the price), I’ve popped out next question, gakkak juseyo? And the (the salesperson) will look at me weirdly. Well, I know he knows what I meant, coz in the end, he just smiled and laughed it off. But I managed to shop a few things. Can you believe that? I only change RM600 to Won. Sangat Berjimat okie..Huha..

But it turned out that the trip was a good one. I was gobsmacked!

It was fun.. though Kimchi was not.. nway.. kamsa hamnida! (haha I am so not good in Korean, very limited vocabulary)

Let's Get Pixelated!

Sunday, April 06, 2008

There is now the superhot sofa which has the most outrageous print ever.
Designed by Royal College of Art graduate Cristian Zuzunaga (pict) who works as a model prior to his study at Royal College of Art in London.

The idea itself is freakingly amazing. If any of you guys know that it has hit our shores, do let me know. What a whacky wack dizzy looking sofa. And I’m loving it. It will look great in a room with white walls. I bet your eyes will explode if the whole room is pixelated (walls, ceiling, and floors even). Way too groovy.. then we can be pixilated by the pixelated room..

Very Swish-Looking Office..

Saturday, April 05, 2008

I was surfing through people blogs when I stumbled upon something which is totally cool.. These are the picture of the recently opened Google’s engineering office in Zurich. Well I guess their main idea when they are designing the office must be that they want to make their employees happy to come to work every day. The office has so many types of relaxing area to encourage creativity for their engineers. Meeting is done in the style of cable car, Swiss chalets and igloos. The office even has fireman poles to allow easy access between floors and a slide to ensure that people can get to the cafeteria as quickly as possible. (I wonder how their HSE is tackling on the hazards of the slide and fireman poles). I guess Petronas ought to be doing something like this as well. if we cant have the relaxations areas, probably we can have vibrant coloured furnitures. Unlike the offices in Tower 2, Our offices in Tower one designs are so rigid. . I went to CPOC once and their office is thousand times better that Tower 1. Even OD and XD offices are nicely designed. (XD has this amazing red pantry, covering a curvy area which is absolutely stunning). The offices in Tower 2 has more colours and their furniture is way cooler than the gloomy grayish layout we have in Tower 1. (Yeah I know, Tower 1 design is restricted by FMSU. That is why the colour is so boring that it can bores your eyes to the back of your skull)

Below is an excerpt from the BBC News on 13th March 2008

Engineers work in small teams of three or four, which is reflected at the Zurich HQ with small offices, each of which comes with the requisite 'bean bag' meeting room.

Whiteboards are everywhere, allowing ideas to be written down wherever they are thought up and there is a heavy emphasis on the idea that work and play can co-exist.

Other areas include a games room, a library in the style of an English country house and an aquarium where over-worked Googlers can lie in a bath full of red foam and stare at fish.

Google is keen to present itself as the company that 'does no evil' and 'puts users first', statements that are becoming more challenged as the company becomes ever more powerful.

And Google assured the more cynical members of the press that the slide is used every day.

Hallow.. long time no see..

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

This year is my holiday year.. I am going to aussie in june and probably to Tokyo in December. So there goes my bonus money. After this probably I have to seek refuge with alongside homeless people. In fact, I am thinking of doing it right now. I haven’t had a decent annual leave yet since November last year. Even though I am getting used to traveling, now I am feeling really tired and sicken by the idea of it. Now when I am really tired I would just drive to work so that I can have the time of my own and don’t have to wait for the bus and wait for my father to pick me up at Terminal 1. Of course it burns a hole right thru my pocket. And speaking of signs, I am seeing the classic signs that explain why I am being such an idiot. Clearly. I love working, I lurve how it fills my time. But I cant stop moaning on how I hate them either. So I think I am normal, peculiarly normal. This Saturday we are going for the reach out program and then came the good news, the CHR-DD Engagement DD is deferred to another date. Which is such a relieved. But then came the unbelievable wrong timing of HRM Workshop. I am wondering, of all months, in the year.. why does it have to April. Is like the ones who were organizing it are from the planet Mars or something, I guess they should know April is a busy month for HR. with the promotion going on, the PPA. And again of all months.. why must it be APRIL? So there goes me ranting of all the unnecessary issues in my life. Please bear with it.

Is the glass half empty of half full?

Thursday, January 17, 2008

I am trying to see things in what both worlds could offer. I guess I’m tired of being a constant optimist. Change is something that I have trouble embracing. My steps are little than baby can make. I am up for others’ opinion which is something that I don’t usually do. Don’t make it hard as it already is. It is a giant leap that I am currently making. I am entering adulthood where people don’t watch cartoon anymore, where lollipops should not be consumed no more, where the stocks market should be taken seriously, where taxes are now bestowed upon you and etc etc. I always have theory that people never change. As far as you to trust an ex-con, you are thrown to your own deep hole where you can’t see the sunshine no more, because.. Deep down inside these ex-cons they will always remember the thrills of having misdemeanor experiences. Nothing could ever erase that. My point, if I ever change into on of the horrible monsters that currently exists in HR, the child that is me is still roaming inside my heart. So much of being a tough gal. and believe me… I am now seeing the glass in many perspectives; inside out and upside down. I am being not only an optimistic but also a girl full of pessimisms. Time to be a bitch and no more angel dopey looking ME.

What’s with apples and oranges?

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Can you compare oranges and apples? Of course you can. And surely in the end you see a lot of disparities. You will point out that oranges are oranges and apples are apples. It is easy as that. But it is interesting on how widely the phrase is being used.. just generally it has become such a common expression. Next time I am going to ask.. can you compare rambutan and pulasan? Or maybe can you compare a pancake and roti canai? A bit more up to date I guess? Plus we don’t grow oranges and apples here..
