Very Swish-Looking Office..

Saturday, April 05, 2008

I was surfing through people blogs when I stumbled upon something which is totally cool.. These are the picture of the recently opened Google’s engineering office in Zurich. Well I guess their main idea when they are designing the office must be that they want to make their employees happy to come to work every day. The office has so many types of relaxing area to encourage creativity for their engineers. Meeting is done in the style of cable car, Swiss chalets and igloos. The office even has fireman poles to allow easy access between floors and a slide to ensure that people can get to the cafeteria as quickly as possible. (I wonder how their HSE is tackling on the hazards of the slide and fireman poles). I guess Petronas ought to be doing something like this as well. if we cant have the relaxations areas, probably we can have vibrant coloured furnitures. Unlike the offices in Tower 2, Our offices in Tower one designs are so rigid. . I went to CPOC once and their office is thousand times better that Tower 1. Even OD and XD offices are nicely designed. (XD has this amazing red pantry, covering a curvy area which is absolutely stunning). The offices in Tower 2 has more colours and their furniture is way cooler than the gloomy grayish layout we have in Tower 1. (Yeah I know, Tower 1 design is restricted by FMSU. That is why the colour is so boring that it can bores your eyes to the back of your skull)

Below is an excerpt from the BBC News on 13th March 2008

Engineers work in small teams of three or four, which is reflected at the Zurich HQ with small offices, each of which comes with the requisite 'bean bag' meeting room.

Whiteboards are everywhere, allowing ideas to be written down wherever they are thought up and there is a heavy emphasis on the idea that work and play can co-exist.

Other areas include a games room, a library in the style of an English country house and an aquarium where over-worked Googlers can lie in a bath full of red foam and stare at fish.

Google is keen to present itself as the company that 'does no evil' and 'puts users first', statements that are becoming more challenged as the company becomes ever more powerful.

And Google assured the more cynical members of the press that the slide is used every day.
